Responsibilities include systems integration with a focus on the design of network and control systems using a wide variety of control protocols. This includes providing concise system documentation, ongoing research into new products and their implementation, and clear communication with internal team members, design team members, and end user clients. Additionally, I regularly serve as system programmer and onsite coordinator for large network lighting installations assuring projects are installed correctly and the system design is executed successfully.
Responsibilities include North American price list management, system engineering for dealers and system integrators, global tech support for both dealers and end users, comprehensive product training for dealers, project specific product training for end users, global marketing strategies, new product design and development, tradeshow design and coordination, and business process development and documentation.
As the sales manager for the Midwest my responsibilities included customer sales and management. A comprehensive knowledge of cost of goods as well as cost of sales was required to build a successful bidding strategy to complete public bids and quotations. While at BMI Supply I also served as product manager for numerous manufacturers. The ability to assess sales trends and implement an efficient stocking policy was required. In my tenure at BMI Supply I also had an array of other responsibilities including Network/System Administrator, IT Support, Database Manager, Customer Service Manager, and interim Southern Division Operations Manager.
The 2000 season at Northern Stage was rigorous with a new production opening every four weeks. As technical director I was responsible for the technical design and construction of numerous designers’ visions as well as the coordination and implementation of all technical elements of production. This included pyrotechnics, automation, rigging, lighting, costumes, as well as wood and steel scenic elements into a single cohesive production.
My work at Beef and Boards included coordinating crew calls, procuring materials, and scenic construction. My experience in theatrical rigging allowed for the design and implementation of upgraded rigging systems drastically improving the safety of the theatre. As master electrician my responsibilities included hang, focus, patch, and programming of the main stage production, fixture maintenance, procurement of new lighting equipment, management of the team of follow spot operators, and occasional concert lighting design.
The first phase of the Syracuse University Carrier Dome project involved development of a lighting and power controls network on a fiber-optic backbone. Power and data distribution are located in four electrical rooms spread out to the corners of the arena. The system is controlled using a Mosaic MSC controller. User interface is achieved using two Mosaic touchscreens. Game time integration with the Daktronics scoreboard and video system is done via UDP. Remote support connection is via an industrial IoT Gateway providing a secure layer2 connection to the lighting network.
This permanent lighting installation on the inner harbor of Buffalo New York was designed with 516 static fixtures and 10 moving heads. Control is provided via GrandMA on PC and Madrix. DMX distribution is a combination of wired DMX for the static spots on the building, wireless DMX to 8 of the moving heads located on Kelly Island across the shipping channel, and an extensive IP network to support the pixel mapped Color Kinetics distributed across the east side of the building. Implementation required 10 weeks of field project coordination and technical services. I continue to serve as one of the select team of site supervisors the ownership group trusts for annual maintenance.
Beyond my career in professional lighting controls I spend a large amount of my free time exploring the latest technology advancements in "smart home" automation.
In the rare quite moments I build custom PCs. I'm an aspiring chef, coffee connoisseur, and scotch aficionado.
